Olive Or Twist!

14 Mar 2012

You sure don’t have to be an Irish lass to get your green goin’ during this weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day. As fun as “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” tees can be- I prefer to accessorize with green for these festivities. And yes, a stein of green beer does count when it comes to fashion accessories. ;]

The final votes have yet to be tallied, but I’m pretty certain that these shoes will be part of my holiday outfit.

St. Patrick’s Day fashion is usually defined by bright greens, but you make the rules darling. If it’s olive you’re feeling- then ‘olive’ you! :]

January’s Best!

11 Jan 2012

This week has given me an entirely refreshing and profound respect for parenting- especially single, working parents! I am caring for my nephews, and after only three days I am already exhausted. With the morning routine, shuttling around, homework, projects, and making meals- I don’t know how people do it all. I’ve also come to understand the benefits of online shopping when you’re a busy worker bee. Lucky you, January is just the right month for killer clearance sales on plus size fashion!

Stores are full speed ahead, and already aiming for Spring. I’m more of a last minute shopper, and that means bargains! I’ve been perusing some of Plus Size Steals favorite clothing websites, and put together a list of the best sales currently in motion. All for you-

Lane Bryant BRA6 convertible plunge bra - Women's Plus Size/Black -

1. Lane Bryant should be every woman’s hero this week. Bras are buy 2- get 2 free. Do you know how difficult it is to find quality bras at a deal? I’m sure you do, so stock up now sisters!

2. Torrid is always having some sort of sale, but this week I’m really digging their Buy One Get One Free accessory sale.

Woman Within Plus Size Gathered neck fleece jacket (LIGHT INDIGO,3X)

3. One Stop Plus has their Winter coats at 60% off! Already covered? January is the month I pick up really inexpensive items that will get me through next Winter, as well. Like boots….

 Sandra Over-The-Knee Boot

4.  I love Delia*s for their variety of styles, especially boots. They are marking all Winter gear 50% off!

5. I don’t post enough from New York & Company, but this week is a must! Depending on your receipt total, you’ll get 40 to 50% off your purchase. And they have their “Big, Big Sale” going. Up to 80% off everything. Eek!

Have fun, ladies!

Funky Fall!

19 Oct 2011

Fall is a feeling, anymore.  Not really a season. When we’re catching up to November, and it’s still 80 degrees, it’s hard to transition into Fall-Winter fashion.

I’m officially declaring this Fall! And it’s time to get funky with Fall footwear. All too often I see women with plain, simple, bland ole’ neutral shoes on. Why wear neutrals on your feet, and stress over throwing together the “right” outfit? When you can get away with slipping into simplest dress… if you have the right feet on! Think of shoes as an accessory. Would you wear dull brown earrings, with no thought about it? Your Fall footwear could be that last touch to really pull off an ensemble! So think funky when you start shopping online for boots from your favorite plus size clothing stores!

I really couldn’t resist these boots! You can’t really tell, but they are wide width! When I say “plus size” I don’t just mean my curves. Bones, feet, head…it’s all big. So I make sure to hunt for wide width in the sole, and wide calf boots. You can be fashionable and comfortable. For me, it’s a must!

Avenue Plus Size Darci Tall Buckle Slouch Boot (BLACK,12 W)

Yea, yea, yea, they are neutral, but no where near dull! I found these great wide calf boots on OneStopPlus.com

Cheap as ever with this plus size coupon. Heh heh. Happy Fall to you!

Too Cute to Boot!

16 Sep 2011

I vowed to die of embarrassment if I ever wore these boots in public. Calf height suede, no heel, over poofed in fur with a beaded design on the toes. So much faux fur! It looks like I just slipped my feet into two foxes and started walking!

Some people call them “mukluks,” but honey I’ve seen mukluks. They don’t have to look like this.

So they became my comfy lounge boots for lazy days at home. Cozy little pillows for my feet. My new winter slippers. Then, one day…I did a silly little thing. It all started with a trip to the bank, then the grocery store…it was all over from there. I got way too comfy.

This year, I’m doing it right. Getting my boots before winter is on the crawl. And I mean cute boots! From trustworthy plus-size stores! I’ve already found a few favorites…

Storm Crinkle Perforated Western Ankle Boots (Wide Width)

Remember, it’s still Fall!  You can get away with light colors for a while longer. Torrid, the wonderful plus-size shop, has some of my favorite finds this season!

Roamans Plus Size Rocker Convertible Boots By Comfortview (RED,9 M)

Think of spicy red to pair with neutrals.  Next time you slip into curvy black leggings, try a bright ankle boot!

Toya Dusty Grey Lace-Up Combat Boot (Wide Width)

Knee boots are hot, hot, hot this Fall-Winter. I’ve seen them gracing the runways of  Michael Kors, most recently.

A great way to keep your legs warm and add a lot of character to your outfit!

Tasha Black Suede Over-The-Knee Flat Boots (Wide Width)

To warm feet & stylish boots! Ta-ta

I think it all started with my Grandmother Eva. She was one of those classy ladies that owned more pairs of shoes than she had hairs on her head. And always a purse to coordinate with her house of heels. Which makes me feel way less guilty about my collection….literally, a collection of shoes. It must be hereditary!

Growing up a rough farm kid, I had to make up for my lost “dress up stage,” as I got older. What started with a few pairs of modest wedges, eventually became a secret society of  peep-toes, and mary janes, and many towering heels I wouldn’t last 10 minutes in.

Because some things, like twirling through the living room draped in your grandmother’s jewels…never get old!

And that, is exactly what I did yesterday. I pulled out a few pairs of vintage heels, picked up from various thrift stores. I slid 60 year old silk scarves over my shoulders, and the loudest clip-on earrings I could find. Then I twirled! I twirled like I was 7 years old, and I’d just won the national twirling contest for twirling longer, and faster than any other twirler ever could.

Sometimes, we need our inner child, and a good pair of shoes to remind us what freedom feels like. :)

I may have inherited Gram’s love of shoes, but I sure didn’t inherit her actual shoes. Not when she was only a tip toe over 5 feet, and no bigger than one of those hula girls you glue to your dashboard.

I stand strong at 5 foot 9 inches, with a size 10 foot. Do you know how difficult it is to find attractive shoes at a size 10?!

Actually, I have some good news. It’s about to get easier!

I’ve found some of the most adorable, the most sexy shoes…in all sizes!

Guest blogger  (and friend!) Trenise talks about her favorite pair of heels.

torrid_shoes_blog

Hi I’m Trenise and I am a plush size diva…

torrid_shoes

I purchased these strap heels from Torrid for my birthday last January. I was having a pink and black themed event and didn’t know where to even start to look for my outfit…that was until i befriended Pammy from PlusSizeSteals! I was referred to Plus Size Steals’ Torrid page as a starter place and I actually found everything i needed there.
It seemed that my shoes were the part of my whole outfit that stood out.

When I first saw these shoes I knew I had found what I was looking for. They were elegant and yet sexy. Even though they are kind of tall they are surprisingly comfortable.  The chunky heel provides some good support; I’m able to wear the shoes the whole night.

These Torrid shoes really stood out because of the playful little bow on the back which everyone complemented me on. I had on some jeans that night but I have worn these shoes with a nice gold plus size cocktail dress, I’ve worn them with a blue jean skirt and a white blouse that ties around the waist, I have even worn the shoes to my best friends wedding with a pretty creamy pink baby doll dress. So these shoes are very versatile and multifunctional meaning you can pretty much wear them just about anywhere.

I will definitely be wearing these shoes to a few more events and possibly even a spring photo shoot I have planned.

Have a favorite pair of heels?  Email us pics!

Urban Ski Bunny Chic

18 Dec 2010

What’s the best way to keep warm and look good in frigid temperatures? I took this question to an expert.. Our friend Jennifer Andrews (who is plus size fab) owns a Bed and Breakfast in upstate New York.”It can get pretty cold in the mountains. While the general rule of thumb is to layer, I prefer warmer classic pieces without the clunk!” says Jennifer.

Jenn’s going to love this..

A recent New York Times article talks about a hot new winter trend- urban ski chic.  The runways are crowded with faux fur, puffy jackets and over sized furry hats.  With its Nordic influences, this elegant (and warm!) trend perfectly suits the plus size woman.  I love the shapes; never boring.  Comment or email us, is this trend plus size fab?

Fun and faux furry.  Check out this plus size bomber jacket at Torrid.com.

These wide calf fur trimmed boots by Comfortview are true to size (even with heavy socks) and are so ski bunny chic.  Durability isn’t an issue with these boots.

Excuse the corny/obvious title of this post, but I just couldnt help it!

So I dont know about you, but one of my favorite things about Fall is getting to wear boots! Today was one of the first days that it was cold enough to bust out some boots, so I was super excited.

Anyways, I went through my closet looking for some of my favorite boots. Here’s what I found:

Love heeled ankle boots! The gold studs are the reason I bought them. However, they are probably the most painful shoes I own. However, that doesn’t really matter because they look cute!

I have had my eye on the combat boots for a while, so when I got paid last week, I headed straight to Steve Madden. I can tell these are going to be my winter staple. They are great for walking around NYC and I love them so much!

My biker ankle boots! These are my winter going out shoes- And even better I got them at Payless!

These are my over the knee boots. These usually only come out when its snowing and really cold out. Everyone needs a classic pair of black boots! I can literally wear these with anything in the winter and my outfit becomes chic. I was holding them up to show you how high they are. My next purchase is going to be thigh high boots.

These are my crazy boots that I have yet to wear. I bought these at Urban Outfitters a while ago and I still cant figure out how to wear them. They were just too cool to pass. One day I will find the perfect outfit for them. They are kinda like moccasins, but not.  What are some of your favorite boots?
