Back In A Splash!

25 Apr 2012

Ever struggled through the 3 months of Spring to find that perfect fitting swimsuit, and still came out frazzled? Yea- it happens to the best of us. With a quintessential “pear shape” I’ve resorted to making my own swimsuits. Not this year though! I’m going to try my best to bring you a series of top-notch plus size swimsuits, and today we’re mixing it up with my favorite Summer drink! :)

1. Sugar Skull Print Tankini – Torrid

2 through 4 are from Swimsuits For All

4. Infinity Blu Plus Size Cove One Shoulder Swimsuit

Summer just calls for a cute suit, floppy hat, and savory summer drinks. This is my favorite for the moment.

Seems complicated, but it really isn’t. Give it a go!

Ice

8 raspberries

5 drops rose water

5-1/2 ounces bourbon sweet tea (see below)

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Thread three of the raspberries onto a small skewer and set aside.
  3. Put the remaining five berries in a cocktail shaker, add the five drops of rosewater and muddle with the raspberries.
  4. Add ice and bourbon sweet tea to shaker and shake vigorously.
  5. Strain into glass and garnish with berries on skewer.

Enjoy!

I’ve seen brights in the color blocking stage and I’ve seen head-to-toe pastels, but pastels + brights is ready to make a grand entrance! Into my life that is. How about you join me?

(Big thanks to Andrew Fillmore Photography!!)

Spring makes me this happy. I’m finally beginning to feel comfortable in brights, but I’m waiting for Summer to bust out the vibrant hues. For the Spring prelude, it’s a toss up of the two. Stay tuned as the color blocking saga continues…

Remember the really popular clothing company that was digitally pasting real heads over fake bodies? Yea, H&M feels that the virtual “body can better display clothes made for humans than humans can…”

I wonder how much money those fake beings spend at H&M every year?

So I was just itching to check out their Summer 2012 plus size collection. You’ll be pleased to know the models are very much real! The beautiful Tara Lynn is H&M’s one and only for this collection. Maybe because they have a whopping 19 items available. You’d think for a trend setting clothing company that rakes in billions of dollars every year, they would have multiple plus size collections. And designs that represent the current trends. It all feels plain, black, and baggy for this plus size Summer season.

What do you think of H&M’s plus size threads?!

Over here at Plus Size Steals we have the honor to work with some really magnificent companies. Companies that literally began sprouting roots in their family garage with just a dream and a pair of hands.

You’ve seen my review of the Los Angeles based plus size boutique Sealed With A Kiss Designs! This time around, I’d like to share one plus size clothing line that takes my breath away with every part of their being.

Pronounced ”ee zhee zhee.” IGIGI was founded by Yuliya Raquel in 2000, and is based out of the San Francisco, California area. Each step involved in providing these gorgeous plus size fashions are created and finished in the Bay Area! IGIGI’s mission is: “to transform the world’s view of beauty. IGIGI creates sexy, stylish, and sophisticated collections of plus size clothing to be a major part of the lifestyle of a fashion-loving modern woman – her wedding, the parties she attends, her work, her fun, her fashion, her life!
Our designs accentuate and celebrate the beauty of the curvaceous female figure. A major focus of IGIGI is to provide our customer with the right fit for her body shape…”

IGIGI’s Spring 2012 collections are especially inspired by vintage designs. Naturally, I am falling even more deeply in love with them this season!

Enjoy & let me know what you think of IGIGI…?

You know when you say something that maybe you weren’t quite ready to say, but it felt right in that moment? Then later on, through retrospect, you feel silly.

Yea… that’s kinda how I feel right now, as I lay on the grass, writing this in 85 degree sunshine. I’m wondering what I was thinking when I prematurely started talking and writing about summer hitting the road. See, I live in a place where the summers are mild and winter tends to kick all the other seasons out of bed a lil’ early.

With 95 degrees of burning rays projected for the high today…I’m ditching the calendar! And allowing myself to be drenched in everything summer!

Maybe I’m just a last minute kind of lady, but I’ve decided against letting the likes of cardigans and closed toed heels anywhere near my daydreams for a while.  Instead, I’m holding onto empire dress lines and opening a window into all of my favorite plus size trends of the moment.

Like  this one…

Belts! These waist cinchers never lose my fancy. And the color black is not a seasonal thing for me. It’s more like that go-to girlfriend that you pick up when life becomes a craze. A lifetime necessity. This time though, things were a little different…

Geometric everything is hot this summer, and I kinda got a little hot when I found this piece at Savers thrift store for only 5 bucklings.

I slipped my new geo-skirt over head, cinched it with a belt, and delicately shaded my eyes with vintage inspired sunglasses.

My roommate threw on some Dianne Reeves as we rolled through downtown with the windows up. Life felt like it was happening in slow motion. Like my animal print belt and movie star glasses gave me the curves of Mae West and a bit of Jane Russell’s sass.

For a minute there, it felt like we were just ridin’ through New York City…without a worry in our hearts…

Summer Glam & Gowns!

08 Aug 2011

Hello Hollywood Glam! You’ve caught my affection, and I’m imagining that this will be a never ending love affair.

I’ve been swooped into a swoony bit of obsession for the 1930’s to 1940’s, and everything to do with the leading ladies of the time. I keep catching myself practically gawking through the big screen at the beauty and elegance, but mostly their stunning way of dress.

There is something so classy in how  these women will grace a room, embellished with glistening jewels, and then glide towards the camera, swaying in a floor length satin gown.  Stealing the moment of an entire audience, eyes swollen in awe.

Absolutely breathtaking.

A classic style, that rested on the idea of highlighting the alluring curves of a gal’s body.  The sorts of ideology that I’m sure all of us plus size women wouldn’t mind seeing reappear.

Through the years though, our daily attire has transitioned into more casual frocks to accommodate our pratical lifestyles. Yet, there are still those times that call for an extravagant gown, with sparkling accessories, and hair that would impress any Hollywood hair stylist!

Hmm….I’m thinking it’s time to slip into a sensual gown for a wedding, perhaps? Or a magical evening with a swanky social event. Maybe an awards show party with your friends, where you all dress up as your favorite starlett. I’m personally hoping a glamorous night of cocktails, a quellazaire in hand, and sassy chats will actualize sometime very soon!

I really wouldn’t mind any excuse to dress up in a sexy evening gown and go all out. Thank the fashion world that nowadays, plus size gowns are still chic and comfortable. No more corsets and petticoats, ladies.

We’re glamming out in modern comfort with a Bette Davis twist!

Mm. A lil’ mix of an old style with some very contemporary fabric. Looks oh so soft and comfy, as well!

Sheer elegance…

I came across so many more gorgeous gowns in the Steals section of our site. Your turn to swagger on over. :]

As I sit on my deck, settled into a tanned leather chair, circa 1972; I can feel the sun slowly reaching for my cheekbones as it breaks the horizon.  Feet stooped over the lower shelf of the bar. It’s 7:21 a.m., and my skin is still tight from the morning chill. I’m easily reminded that summer has come, but is quickly fading into fall. The sun is rising later, and the rain is now slithering into our days. Although…that might just be the unpredictable weather of Utah’s desert land. Either way, I’ve suddenly brought swiftness into my daily thoughts. A rush to breathe in every last moment of this sunny season, to play more, to enjoy all things that bring warmth, and to take advantage of my summer wardrobe before the last weeks of August escape us.

On the plus side of the passing summertide, anything and everything built stylish for this season has now been tossed into the mega sale section!!! (This is where you launch your arms into the air like you’re at a Pat Benatar concert, and toss your body around in a celebratory dance!)

But wait!…wait!…don’t start heading for the door just yet.

I’ve been fiddlying through my closet, seeking out the last necessary additions to my summer-heavy hangers. Realizing that the only adorable adds I never made, were sexy tops, and cute shorts. Dresses galore, colorful accessories, a new swimsuit, and playful shoes have all been covered!

Lucky me…I mean, us! I’ve been hitting the online sales like a good lil’ bargain shopper and well, here’s the good news….
