It took only one story from the infamous Black Friday sales day to send me running. “An employee loses her life to a stampede of greedy shoppers,” is not my kind of tag-line. So I have traded in my warm frocks from the long-lines of saving to become a tea and slippers kind of shopper! Let the online shopping begin…

Someone Like You!

21 Nov 2011

That’s exactly what Adele is. Last time we featured Adele’s shots from her VOGUE cover, the magazine had chopped her beautiful body out of the story. ::shakes finger::

I was ecstatic to see Adele on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s December 2011 issue! And it wasn’t just her head this time…

Adele is making this cover sizzle! We love her dress especially, but I for one wouldn’t get close to a Dolce & Gabbana rack. So I found another sexy version of this dress–at a killer price!

Use this coupon for any of Torrid’s plus size clothing and take even more off their holiday sales!

Happy finds!

Remember the last winter style blog? I was whining about how Winter turns me into a Yeti…

Even though I yearn for 24-hour snowveralls, I can’t help but love the cozyness of plus size winter wear. With the infamous Black Friday creeping towards us, that means mega sales from the best plus size clothing stores!

I’m here to help you weed out the “do’s” from the “don’ts” when you tumble through those sales.

Roamans Plus Size Wool Military Coat (BLACK,14 W)

A fitted wool coat is the best way to show off your curves this season. Combine that with a military flare, and you’ll be sporting one of this season’s hottest plus size styles!

DON’T: I don’t care how much you loved 1996, marshmallow coats must stay away from fingertips!

Roamans Plus Size Convertible Mittens

Speaking of fingertips. Finger-less gloves are functional and sometimes funky enough to be an official fashion accessory. Still keeping you warm when it’s most important!

DON’T: Step out with nothing covering the lady legs. Even if you think they’re your best asset. You’ll just look insane when it’s 20 degrees outside and you’re half dressed. Get some cute tights!

Avenue Plus Size Jackie Stretch Riding Boot

Snug wide-calf boots are a must this Winter! Great way to accentuate the shape of your calves while protecting them from chihuahuas. DON’T: Wear your yap-yap. Fur boots are a no-no for your feet.

Alright, get those shoes-a-shufflin’

Ok…not so little, but still very sexy! You can’t get away with little unless you’re planted in Los Angeles through these holidays. Where even one layer might be overbearing when Winter throws an 80 degree day your way.

For the rest of us…first things first. It’s holiday cocktail time! Ahem, I mean, cocktail dress time. Then we can worry about accessorizing your cute new plus size dress with jewelry, scarves, and a cocktail. :]

Avenue Plus Size Flutter Sleeve Drape Neck Dress (BLACK,18)

I’m a bit of a “cheap skate.” Thanks to these killer plus size coupons to OneStopPlus.com, I’m 35% richer!

Dress With Draping Black,20 Plus Size

I’m even more excited to announce our friendship with plus size favorite Jessica London. Where plus size steps it up a notch!

I rule the land of procrastination. The funny thing about procrastinators is that we are not lazy people. We actually are pretty productive, because we will accomplish one-hundred-thirty-eight tasks. As long as none of those tasks are the absolute one thing you must be working on instead.

I kind of lucked out this year, as far as a winter coat is concerned. While it’s snowing in my usual place of residence, Salt Lake City. I’m in Northern California for a couple of months. Very much enjoying this sunshine. Thank you.

Usually, I would be without a warm winter coat until the night before our first falling of snow. Where I would suddenly rush out to purchase a plus size coat or jacket from the bottom of the pile. Ha….Ha. Not this year!

I hit the street of San Francisco to find the perfect plus size coat for when I actually do head back to the snow.

If you’re a last minute Molly like me, you’re in luck! Because we waited so long some of our favorite plus size clothing shops have mega sales going right now! Get your winter coat for half the price!

Jessica London Plus Size Wool-Blend Blanket Coat (BLUE STRIPE,22)

At Plus Size Steals we want nothing less than happiness and warmth for everyone this winter. Find a coat drive here, and take last year’s model to a coat drive near you! Spreading joy to someone who especially needs it.

Fall Into Leather!

13 Oct 2011

I caught my sleeve jacket on the bar door, in one of those attempts to make a smooth exit. You know. The kind of smooth exit that should come after you’ve just made eyes with the handsome bartender again.

Nope. It was more like a Charlie Chaplin side-winding kind of exit. Where you’re sure multiple people are going to get up from their seats and in a zombie-esque manner, chase you outside carrying glasses of water. Or hand you a trophy, and pat you on the back for being the most awkward patron of the day!

I figure I’ll just make up for my awkwardness with my style. In San Francisco, that feels like the only thing that catches looks, anyhow. Like walking mannequins, the style is leaps above other areas of California. Imagine every style of dress that has evolved with the likes of us humans. Now set your creativity in motion, and think of all the unique fashions those styles would create if they made babies with each other. Yep, that’s San Francisco.

You could paint yourself green and dress up as a praying mantis. You’ll still get a few looks, of course. Yet this area feels more comfortable to such experimental fashions.

I was definitely feeling the praying mantis suit, but decided to try out this season’s hottest plus size trend: colorful leather jackets!

I picked this one up at a shop in Berkeley, and we spent a whole day together…holding each other. Yea. The jacket and I.

I love jackets for the ease. You can slip right in, and out.

Still be protected from the elements, but not feel like someone rolled you up in cotton batting, burrito style.

Avenue Plus Size Ruffled Faux Leather Jacket (TAN,26/28)

One Stop Plus is having an outerwear sale!

And that means I’m definitely getting this plus size ruffled leather jacket. Ahem.

Can being too cheap actually cost you more in the long term? I’m sure you know someone who takes frugality to the extreme. He or she won’t purchase a gallon of milk at their neighborhood supermarket because it’s 20 cents higher than the supermarket that’s 5 miles away. The end result is usually a waste of time, energy and let’s not forget gas (which is hovering around $4.00 per gallon)! Yahoo’s Financiallyfit.yahoo.com website has a great video on this subject, I thought it would be fun to discuss their 5 bullet points. View the video:

Let’s take a deeper look at Yahoo’s top 5 mistakes of being too cheap:

1.  Price does not trump all.  At Plus Size Steals we stress purchasing investment pieces.  There’s nothing that annoys me more than buying a new sweater that falls apart after a few washings.  I’ll spend a few extra dollars for plus size clothing that will last and continue to look radiant.

2. Outlet shopping can be a hit or miss.  The curvy woman has limited options at an outlet mall, especially with the recent announcement of Catherines outlet store closings across the country.  If you’re having a lazy weekend morning I suggest visiting an outlet and surveying the quality.  Most of the clothes I have bought at outlets are sadly buried deep in the long and winding abyss that is my closet.. but I do have some pieces (including a wrinkle free oxford) that I absolutely love. Also love to do accessory and shoe shopping at outlets- great deals galore!  Locate an outlet in your area-  plus size outlets.

3.  Around the house- fix it yourself and save some dollars.  This depends on what the actual project is.  I know my limitations and they don’t include going to the Home Depot and buying supplies to create a fabulous new bedroom.  Nor am I going to be able to fix my dishwasher when it stalls.  This is an area where money spent is an investment in your property, don’t screw around with that.

4.  Dollar menus at fast food chains are generally a bad idea.  When I eat at a fast food restaurant and order off the dollar menu I tend to purchase more than I should because the price is so cheap.  Not a good idea for my waistline or my health.

5.  Is bulk supermarket buying better?  When I shop at Costco I tend to purchase way too much that’s needed for my household. Sure, you’ll save money up front, but in the long run you may notice the items that spoil don’t make it the bulk buying experience very economical.

Saving money for me comes down to common sense.  We want to act wisely and look at the overall big picture when bargain hunting.  Check out the Plus Size Steals site as it was specifically developed to save plus size women and men money easily on the web with coupons and sale announcements.
