Over here at Plus Size Steals we have the honor to work with some really magnificent companies. Companies that literally began sprouting roots in their family garage with just a dream and a pair of hands.

You’ve seen my review of the Los Angeles based plus size boutique Sealed With A Kiss Designs! This time around, I’d like to share one plus size clothing line that takes my breath away with every part of their being.

Pronounced ”ee zhee zhee.” IGIGI was founded by Yuliya Raquel in 2000, and is based out of the San Francisco, California area. Each step involved in providing these gorgeous plus size fashions are created and finished in the Bay Area! IGIGI’s mission is: “to transform the world’s view of beauty. IGIGI creates sexy, stylish, and sophisticated collections of plus size clothing to be a major part of the lifestyle of a fashion-loving modern woman – her wedding, the parties she attends, her work, her fun, her fashion, her life!
Our designs accentuate and celebrate the beauty of the curvaceous female figure. A major focus of IGIGI is to provide our customer with the right fit for her body shape…”

IGIGI’s Spring 2012 collections are especially inspired by vintage designs. Naturally, I am falling even more deeply in love with them this season!

Enjoy & let me know what you think of IGIGI…?

Back To The Fuchsia!

02 Feb 2012

Along with the month of January, New Year’s resolutions are simply a memory by now. It is said that the average New Year sentiment lasts only 18 days before we toss em’ out.

With February on a roll and it’s raining here in Salt Lake City- I can still feel the tides shifting. This one feels more like Spring though!

You might have noticed from past blogs on plus size fashion, that I am not fond of pink, or any bright color for that matter. However, this is a new year with many opportunities to try something new!

When I was reading up on the psychology of color, I remember a bit that said people who sport brighter colors tend to be happier overall. My goal is to stick with the brighter side of things, especially for the introduction of plus size Spring trends!

Do you have any fashion bits you’re experimenting with this season?

January’s Best!

11 Jan 2012

This week has given me an entirely refreshing and profound respect for parenting- especially single, working parents! I am caring for my nephews, and after only three days I am already exhausted. With the morning routine, shuttling around, homework, projects, and making meals- I don’t know how people do it all. I’ve also come to understand the benefits of online shopping when you’re a busy worker bee. Lucky you, January is just the right month for killer clearance sales on plus size fashion!

Stores are full speed ahead, and already aiming for Spring. I’m more of a last minute shopper, and that means bargains! I’ve been perusing some of Plus Size Steals favorite clothing websites, and put together a list of the best sales currently in motion. All for you-

2. Torrid is always having some sort of sale, but this week I’m really digging their Buy One Get One Free accessory sale.

It took only one story from the infamous Black Friday sales day to send me running. “An employee loses her life to a stampede of greedy shoppers,” is not my kind of tag-line. So I have traded in my warm frocks from the long-lines of saving to become a tea and slippers kind of shopper! Let the online shopping begin…

Avenue Plus Size Pleated Georgette Dress

Avenue & Lane Bryant Plus Size Shops have everything 50% off! Top that off with free shipping and I’d say you are set!

Coat In Military Style Dark Red,16 Plus Size

Remember the last winter style blog? I was whining about how Winter turns me into a Yeti…

Even though I yearn for 24-hour snowveralls, I can’t help but love the cozyness of plus size winter wear. With the infamous Black Friday creeping towards us, that means mega sales from the best plus size clothing stores!

I’m here to help you weed out the “do’s” from the “don’ts” when you tumble through those sales.

Roamans Plus Size Wool Military Coat (BLACK,14 W)

A fitted wool coat is the best way to show off your curves this season. Combine that with a military flare, and you’ll be sporting one of this season’s hottest plus size styles!

DON’T: I don’t care how much you loved 1996, marshmallow coats must stay away from fingertips!

Roamans Plus Size Convertible Mittens

Speaking of fingertips. Finger-less gloves are functional and sometimes funky enough to be an official fashion accessory. Still keeping you warm when it’s most important!

DON’T: Step out with nothing covering the lady legs. Even if you think they’re your best asset. You’ll just look insane when it’s 20 degrees outside and you’re half dressed. Get some cute tights!

Avenue Plus Size Jackie Stretch Riding Boot

Snug wide-calf boots are a must this Winter! Great way to accentuate the shape of your calves while protecting them from chihuahuas. DON’T: Wear your yap-yap. Fur boots are a no-no for your feet.

Alright, get those shoes-a-shufflin’

xoxo

I rule the land of procrastination. The funny thing about procrastinators is that we are not lazy people. We actually are pretty productive, because we will accomplish one-hundred-thirty-eight tasks. As long as none of those tasks are the absolute one thing you must be working on instead.

I kind of lucked out this year, as far as a winter coat is concerned. While it’s snowing in my usual place of residence, Salt Lake City. I’m in Northern California for a couple of months. Very much enjoying this sunshine. Thank you.

Usually, I would be without a warm winter coat until the night before our first falling of snow. Where I would suddenly rush out to purchase a plus size coat or jacket from the bottom of the pile. Ha….Ha. Not this year!

I hit the street of San Francisco to find the perfect plus size coat for when I actually do head back to the snow.

If you’re a last minute Molly like me, you’re in luck! Because we waited so long some of our favorite plus size clothing shops have mega sales going right now! Get your winter coat for half the price!

Jessica London Plus Size Wool-Blend Blanket Coat (BLUE STRIPE,22)

At Plus Size Steals we want nothing less than happiness and warmth for everyone this winter. Find a coat drive here, and take last year’s model to a coat drive near you! Spreading joy to someone who especially needs it.

Casey’s Finds!

07 Nov 2011

A memory foam mattress & duct tape! That sums up the extent of my fashion in the Winter. When you live in the snow, “looking cute” is not something you attempt first thing in the morning. From the time you wake up to the point you hit your doorstep for work, there is a good chance the clouds just dumped 6 inches all over your driveway. Your stylish threads morph into exercise attire by the end of your snow shovelin’ workout.

Last year I spent the Winter looking like Randy from “A Christmas Story.”

So this year, I vow to find funky & functional Winter wear to add to my plus size wardrobe. With the holidays running up on us, there are plenty of sales headed your way. Signed, sealed, and delivered from your favorite plus size fashion shops! So let’s shop….

Avenue Plus Size Marilyn Collar Belted Sweater Dress (CHARCOAL GREY,18/20)

Sweater dresses, cardigan sweaters, pull-over sweaters, sweater tunics…I’m thinking warm & cozy this Winter.

Jessica London Plus Size Fairisle Sweater (BERRY TWIST COMBO,22/24)

And some great boots to go with this sweater! Ahem…and 50% off now!

Jessica London Plus Size Comfortview 'Rush' Leather Boots (COGNAC,8 1/2 W)

Come closer. Closer…I have a little secret for you. You can top these sales off with even more savings with this One Stop Plus Size Clothing Coupon.

Enjoy!

xoxo -CaseyK

Fall Into Leather!

13 Oct 2011

I caught my sleeve jacket on the bar door, in one of those attempts to make a smooth exit. You know. The kind of smooth exit that should come after you’ve just made eyes with the handsome bartender again.

Nope. It was more like a Charlie Chaplin side-winding kind of exit. Where you’re sure multiple people are going to get up from their seats and in a zombie-esque manner, chase you outside carrying glasses of water. Or hand you a trophy, and pat you on the back for being the most awkward patron of the day!

I figure I’ll just make up for my awkwardness with my style. In San Francisco, that feels like the only thing that catches looks, anyhow. Like walking mannequins, the style is leaps above other areas of California. Imagine every style of dress that has evolved with the likes of us humans. Now set your creativity in motion, and think of all the unique fashions those styles would create if they made babies with each other. Yep, that’s San Francisco.

You could paint yourself green and dress up as a praying mantis. You’ll still get a few looks, of course. Yet this area feels more comfortable to such experimental fashions.

I was definitely feeling the praying mantis suit, but decided to try out this season’s hottest plus size trend: colorful leather jackets!

I picked this one up at a shop in Berkeley, and we spent a whole day together…holding each other. Yea. The jacket and I.

I love jackets for the ease. You can slip right in, and out.

Still be protected from the elements, but not feel like someone rolled you up in cotton batting, burrito style.

Avenue Plus Size Ruffled Faux Leather Jacket (TAN,26/28)

One Stop Plus is having an outerwear sale!

And that means I’m definitely getting this plus size ruffled leather jacket. Ahem.

Last year it was Snookie from MTV’s Jersey Shore. This year, I have a feeling the streets will be scattered with glitter, towering heels, and meat?

Uh… let’s hope no one goes as far as to clone that Lady Gaga costume. Really, there are many other flashy creations to choose from when it comes to the Lady Gaga Halloween Costume. For 2011, you’ll have a chance to see them all!

Beyond this pop star’s cloning, there is buzz about Amy Winehouse being a popular pick for Halloween costumes. Hm…too soon?

More importantly, this year’s trends leave a lot to offer the plus size woman! Lions, and tigers, and…kittens? All sorts of furry wild creatures have inspired costume picks from your favorite plus size clothing companies.

Monsters, Vamps, & Zombies are frighteningly big this year. With the Zompocalypse televeision show, “Walking Dead,” hitting its second season just weeks before Halloween, the streets will be alive with dead costumes.

Zombie Prom Queen Costume

Remember laying in front of the television, watching those colorful 1980′s cartoons? Now’s your chance to fulfill some of that nostalgia. Retro board game & television characters are always a hit. From Waldo to Rainbow Bright!

One of those Halloween trends that never gets old? Go on and pick your favorite movie character! Whether it be from the last year or 20 years ago, it’s always a hoot going all out on one of your cherished movie pals.

I’m no Maureen O’Hara, but this would be fun….heh heh

Ok…only if I get to carry a shotgun. ;D

Happy hunting!

Street Style Travels!

28 Sep 2011

From Salt Lake City to Sacramento and now sunny Los Angeles, my train travels are on hold for a moment. Really though, would you be able to deny an extended Summer? Right now, it’s 96 degrees and bright as ever.

Yesterday I actually had to take a backpack full of my own plus size clothing down to the thrift store and swap for some lighter frocks. After a 4 mile bicycle ride to the city of La Verne, in wool shorts, and a sweater… I felt more like stripping down and taking a swim in the town fountain.

The train trip from home to LA, and everything in between has been one long, raised eyebrow. I have spent the last year in Salt Lake City, where I was introduced to the “hipster” style, first hand. I boarded the train, and 15 hours later ended up in California’s Capitol City: Sacramento. I then biked through downtown up to Sacramento State University, where I spent 2 hours at a poetry show. The whole time…not a single hipster in site! Even after a night out, then a week in Chico, another awesome college town….I was shocked. I saw one. Only one “hip” individual sporting the well known “ironic” style.

It wasn’t until after spending a day at the LA County Fair, then biking through multiple LA cities, and observing the La Verne college crowd -that i went ah-ha! I have come to the conclusion that thee “Hipster” is not dead. [Sorry America]

Southern California’s style is diverse and relaxed. Maybe it has something to do with the perfect weather, combined with the laid back mentality. Whatever it may be, the plus size women I have encountered and befriended, are incredibly down to earth!

First curvy beauty, Rachel Mckibbens! Gorgeous human being, inside and out. Look her up! Her poetry will change your life.

This particular evening, I was drawn to her tights. Remember Torrid’s purple leaf tights from my last blog? Yep! Same tights! I’m thinking Torrid should be contacting Rachel. She wears their plus size fashions so well.

After I left Sacramento, I spent days in a mountain town with no chance of catching any fashionable women under the age of 70. :D So once I hit the LA area, I was constantly on the lookout for beautiful, stylish, plus size women.

I believe her name was Zara. She was stunning, dressed in what she called her “most casual” style, and perfectly applied eye makeup.

I especially adored her shoes. Courtesy of the thrift chain, “Buffalo Exchange.”

I sat at a local coffee shop in La Verne, with an “interesting” green tea/espresso smoothie. This was the happening spot for curvy passersby. I met this lovely woman from China. She hardly spoke any English, and probably hardly understood mine. She caught my eye with her tunic top, authentically fabricated in her home country. I also admired her boots from Forever 21. It isn’t often that I see a curvy gal pull off a tucked jean look.

Sand colored boots are what’s “in” for plus size Fall fashions of Southern California. I particularly loved hers…

I am heading North next! Cannot wait to see what the Bay Area will bring. I’m sure it will be all sorts of sexy!
