Unapologetically Love Your Body!
10 Oct 2011There is a valley of opportunities set in a day. Thousands of seconds that you can use to belittle your every physical “flaw.” Or thousands of seconds that you can use to set up a sermon in your mind. Stop allowing your eyes to skip over your body, scanning for blemishes. You have the chance to put a kickstand on your self doubts! What’s your choice?
Every year, the National Organization for Women puts on a three day event in Hollywood, California. Women of all shapes and sizes converge to help each other send their body the message of love. As well as publicly promote a healthy body image for everyone, especially plus size women. “Love Your Body Day” is held from October 21-23 this year, and will entertain Meghan McCain as the celebrity host.
In honor of Love Your Body Day, and doing so everyday, I must tell you about a woman that truly inspires me. Sonya Renee is a performance poet, published author, actress, educator and activist. This year Sonya founded a movement that has really taken hold of my heart, and my body. “The Body is Not an Apology” movement has become a healing resource for women and men. Teaching people “…that each time someone unapologetically owns their beauty, loves their scars, they in turn give us permission to do the same!” Check out the poem that started it all…
For me, as a plus size woman who has struggled with the way I perceive myself, I also decided to stop apologizing for my body. To stop feeling guilty for the lines, marks, rolls, blemishes that tell the story of my own struggle. I decided it was time to kick down the fear of showing off my real body, and start loving my body for what it is. Right now, in this moment, the only thing we can change about our body is the way we treat it, see it, and love it. So stop apologizing and start loving everything that you are.
With love,
CaseyK
