Hipstermania…

04 May 2012

Is it the fedora? Maybe the up to the minute briefing on all things new, and old things done “ironically?” What exactly constitutes a “hipster?”

Apparently if you have an affinity for anything produced before your time and you think you’re cooler than everyone else- you can be a hipster. No?

Anyway, I’ve been proclaimed a hipster strictly based on my love for all things vintage. So be it.
It’s a warm Spring day and I’m going out tonight! I don’t usually appreciate white, but this dress is perfect for a warmer weekend date, BBQ, or evening out with (hipster) friends…

Raise your hand if you’re lovin’ those shoulder pads! I used to cut them out of vintage dresses. That was until I realized how well they balance out my curvy hips.

A-line anything is a great pick for plus-size ladies with a “pear shape.” Not to make you appear smaller, but for a more symmetrical look.

I love these straw earrings. They look as though someone painted a glow stick bracelet and then popped it through an earring hook. Favorite bargain buy for the week!

Did you happen to fall upon an awesome bargain this week? Please share…

Manic Monday!

30 Apr 2012

Monday is a dirty word! Regardless of how awesome the beginning of your week is, someone always has to bring up the “M” word. Get you thinking that Monday is twisted. I look at every new week as a fresh start! That usually means a to-do list lengthier than the Constitution. So “Manic Monday” has turned into 15 minute casual Monday.

(And sometimes that means no bra. Shhh!)

Then a ladybug lands on your toes and reminds you of all the small beauties that each day has to offer. (Even if it is Monday : )

As you may know from past post on plus-size bottoms- I love color! Stock up on different colored shorts, skirts, and pants. It will make casual days less dirty vagrant, and more Spring sweetie.

Happy Monday, darlings!

I’ve seen brights in the color blocking stage and I’ve seen head-to-toe pastels, but pastels + brights is ready to make a grand entrance! Into my life that is. How about you join me?

(Big thanks to Andrew Fillmore Photography!!)

Spring makes me this happy. I’m finally beginning to feel comfortable in brights, but I’m waiting for Summer to bust out the vibrant hues. For the Spring prelude, it’s a toss up of the two. Stay tuned as the color blocking saga continues…

There’s no denying this season’s reintroduction of bright colors canvassed over mod inspired designs.  And I’ve been dreaming up my own a-line skirts swirled with cat-eye glasses and a comfy pair of kitten heels…

Catch is…I like to remain as casual as possible while keepin’ the skirts a flowin.’ Pairing a tee and wedges with your favorite bright skirt is the best way to stay comfortable and sexy!

And when you just don’t feel like strapping into a belt- add some character by easily leaving that top button open, and pinning on a fun brooch!

Have a magnificent Monday, darlings

I love Spring’s aromatic breezes, days filled with sunshine, and that scent after it rains. A scent so rejuvenating, it begs for a fresh start. Everything is changing this time of year, and that definitely includes our wardrobes.

Do you remember that scarf belt I made in my last DIY video?

Well check it out now with this fresh outfit idea!

I’m brightening up my wardrobe and my spirits with a mix of Spring colors. What’s your favorite Spring fashion trend?

Over here at Plus Size Steals we have the honor to work with some really magnificent companies. Companies that literally began sprouting roots in their family garage with just a dream and a pair of hands.

You’ve seen my review of the Los Angeles based plus size boutique Sealed With A Kiss Designs! This time around, I’d like to share one plus size clothing line that takes my breath away with every part of their being.

Pronounced ”ee zhee zhee.” IGIGI was founded by Yuliya Raquel in 2000, and is based out of the San Francisco, California area. Each step involved in providing these gorgeous plus size fashions are created and finished in the Bay Area! IGIGI’s mission is: “to transform the world’s view of beauty. IGIGI creates sexy, stylish, and sophisticated collections of plus size clothing to be a major part of the lifestyle of a fashion-loving modern woman – her wedding, the parties she attends, her work, her fun, her fashion, her life!
Our designs accentuate and celebrate the beauty of the curvaceous female figure. A major focus of IGIGI is to provide our customer with the right fit for her body shape…”

IGIGI’s Spring 2012 collections are especially inspired by vintage designs. Naturally, I am falling even more deeply in love with them this season!

Enjoy & let me know what you think of IGIGI…?

All Out Accessories!

03 Aug 2011

For most of our lives, we are sat down and told “how” to do things. How to do them “correctly,” most of all.  And yes, it’s always helpful to have a walking stick along these trails, and trials. Yet, style should be the almighty exception to that. In fact, completely snipped out of the “how to’s” guide of life and fashion.

See…trends are those lovely picks that pop in and out of our lives, and usually include an owner’s manual on where, when, and how to pull them off. Style, on the other hand is an expression of our inner artist. (Whether you think you are creative or not…you are!)

From how we feel, to how we want to make other’s feel, and all the way to just being bold…because we can! Yes. We have that freedom too! This is why we create, to learn how to perfect the things we desire to do. To learn who we are, and what catches our fancy. Fashion is no different in that regard.

Instead of incessantly worrying if that bright necklace pairs up well with those muted shorts, or if you really should have followed the “remove one accessory before you leave the house” rule….just don’t! (Then tell Coco Chanel to back off for a day!) Throw those inhibitions to the wood chipper, and go all out with your accessories, at the very least!

Your style reflects you. Don’t be afraid to be you. :)

Let’s start by picking out a few new wild jewels to accompany that confidence!

Chances are, if you fall in love with these gold and gemmed ear ornaments….you will look stunning in them! It’s all in how your attitude makes you feel, and look. No matter what you’re wearing!

So go on now….risk it all, and toss that chunky wood necklace around your beautiful shoulders! Today, we’re goin’ all out!

Goodness, Torrid has some seriously rad accessories for plus-size ladies.
